Dhikr After Waking

The first praise is the one reported for the moment you wake. The morning adhkar come after that, once you are up and the Fajr prayer is in view.

What to say when you wake

Sahih al-Bukhari records Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur. Sleep is described, in that wording, as a state from which Allah returns you. The sentence is praise, not a request for a specific outcome.

The waking remembrance

    الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

    Alhamdulillahil-ladhi ahyana ba'da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur

    All praise is for Allah who gave us life after having taken it from us, and to Him is the resurrection.

    اللَّهُمَّ بِكَ أَصْبَحْنَا

    Allahumma bika asbahna

    O Allah, by You we enter the morning.

Is the waking dua the same as morning adhkar?

No. The waking dua is said as you come out of sleep. Morning adhkar are the wider set after Fajr.

What if I wake after sunrise?

Still say the waking praise. Then pray Fajr if it is still due, and recite the morning adhkar you can.
